Food and Eating Out in Fiji are few things that let the country down. Most resorts are set in secluded locations or on uninhabited islands so you are stuck with the hotel restaurantno matter you like it or not. Nadi Town has a few good and moderate options for Eating Out in Fiji. This includes Indian curries and Japanese- however, the best restaurants in Nadi are all based on Denarau Island which the Sheraton Resorts a good option for those who like dining. Most of the cooking areas were located in the center of house so that the smoke would repel insects and in turn strengthen the roof thatching. Food wrapped in leaves, mostly banana leaves is placed in the pit of hot stones, covered with soil and left to cook before being exhumed and eaten. Dishes cooked this way include palusami, parcels of taro leaves saturated with coconut milk, onions, and sometimes tinned meat. Fiji Cuisine is rather diverse with great influence from Indian cuisine and spices applied to local traditional dishes.
