Nadi


Nadi, Fiji is the third largest town in Fiji. The town is located on the western side of the island of Viti Levu. Nadi has an population of approximately 30,791. It is a multiracial town. Many of its inhabitants are Indian or Fijian along with a large foreign population. The economy of Nadi, Fiji is dependent on sugarcane and tourism. It is the city with the higest concentration of hotels and motels in Fiji. With its large Indo-Fijian population, Nadi is a centre for Hinduism and Islam in Fiji. The downtown area of Nadi, Fiji is defined by the Nadi River and Viseisei village on the west side. The beautfiul Sri Siva Subramaniya temple on its easten side and attracts a huge number of tourists every year. It is the largest Hindu temple in the Southern hemisphere, and is a site for pilgrims. Muslims worship at the Nadi Mosque and the Ahmadiya Mosque in Nadi.

Nadi is 9 kilometers from Fiji's main international airport and is served by Air Pacific, the international airline of Fiji, Pacific Blue, Korean Air, Air New Zealand and some other domestic airlines such as Pacific Sun, Air Fiji and V.I.P charter airline Air Wakaya. Although it is diametrically opposite to the nation's capital, Suva but it serves the function of Nadi's principal port of entry for travelers to Fiji. Nadi, Fiji is gradually developing as a hub of commerce and tourism.

There are about 18 hotels in Nadi and is poular among travelers seeking to take ferries to the island resorts in Fiji's western Mamanuca groups of islands. The town is close to the western mud-flat beeches and is also close to the Nausori highlands in the east. Some of the important sites of Nadi, Fiji are: Waqadra Botanical Gardens and the Sleeping Giant Gardens.
