Suva


Suva, Fiji is the capital of Fiji and is located on the southeast coats of the island of Viti Levu. It is the commercial and political center of Fiji. It is also the largest urban area in the South Pacific outside Australia and New Zealand. It is again, the main port city of Fiji. Although Suva is on a peninsula and is surrounded by sea, the nearest beach is 40 kilometers away from the Pacific Harbor. Suva is noted for its rainfall that makes Suva popular as “the burning west.” Some of the popular landmarks in Suva, Fiji are:

Fiji Museum: the museum has a fascinating collection of artefacts ranging from objects from the first settlement three and a half thousand years ago. From cultural material from the various Fijian communities, to material documenting the country’s past, everything is available in this museum. Some of the more popular attractions include the prehistory gallery which shows the visitor various aspects of traditional Vitian Culture, the Masi Gallery which shows how this traditional cloth was made and the history gallery where you will see the rudder of the HMS Bounty and a copy of the Deed of Cession when Fiji became a colony of Great Britain.

Suva, Fiji is also the home for the campus of the University of the South Pacific (USP) occupies what was once a New Zealand military base. It is the largest of the many USP campuses spread throughout the South Pacific. There are about 78 gardens in Fiji that include: Takashi Suzuki Garden, Apted Park at Suva Point. Apted Park is a popular spot for viewing sunrise and sunset. Thurston garden which was opened in 1913 has a collection of flora from throughout South Pacific.
